Junior Youth Fellowship (JYF)
JYF is Junior Youth Fellowship, a youth group for students in grades 4-5. During our time together, we want to grow our kids deeper in several areas. One way is through relationships, not just on Sunday nights but throughout their lives. We hope the students will make friends from other schools and other grades so as they move through the various parts of our youth ministry, they will have connections with people.
Second , we want to help them find biblical support and guidance, and engage them in conversation about real-life issues like “Why Do My Parents Always Say No?” to “Is God a Party Pooper?”, from “Do I Have to Like Everyone?” to “”How Do I Know The Bible is True?”.
Third, our goal is to grow them deeper in Christ! Not just learning what the bible says but helping them to put it into action. That being the “Kingdom Now” is not just a choice you make from time to time buy is way of life.
JYF meets on the 1st and 3rd Sundays in The Rock from 4:30 - 6 pm. Parents should plan to drop off and pick up their child in that location.
For more information about JYF, contact Laura Mauzy, Dir. of Children's Ministry, lmauzy@middletownchristian.org or 245-9793.
Mission Sunday
On 2nd and 4th Sundays, elementary students and their parents are invited to join us for “Mission Sunday.” Each Mission Sunday will involve a brief Bible lesson and a service project designed for children and their parents to do together. Service projects will vary. A team is finalizing plans now. Our first afternoon of mission will be Sept. 11. We will take that opportunity to make “thank you” gifts for “first responders” in the Middletown area. Other projects in the planning stages include making blankets for the homeless and making “non-perishable” brown bag dinners for the children taking part in Families in Transition.
For more information about Mission Sundays, contact Jackie Wilham, Asst. Dir. of Children's Ministry, jwilham@middletownchristian.org or 245-9793.
Fifth Sundays
Fifth Sundays be celebrated with family events. Our first event is the annual Tailgate Treats celebration on Sun. Oct. 30 from 5:30 to 7:30. Come and decorate your cars, give out candy, trick or treat, meet new people and visit with old friends. Enjoy a night of food, fun and fellowship as we help provide a fun and safe event for the children of our church and our community. Music to be announced later.
For more information about Fifth Sundays, contact Shaun Morris, Asst. Dir. of Children's Ministry, smorris@middletownchristian.org or 245-9793.
Choirs
Our children's choirs make a joyful noise unto the Lord with periodic appearances in worship, participation in concerts and, for our elementary choir, a spring musical complete with sets and costumes.
Melody Makers (Preschool)
Directed by Bethany Roberts, Melody Makers rehearses during the Sunday School hour. Your child's Sunday School teacher will see that they get to and from rehearsal. The children learn the familiar children's songs of our faith and some new favorites, too. They learn Bible verses, make instruments and have a great time making friends.
The ROCK Choir (Kindergarten - Grade 5)
Directed by Amanda O'Mahoney, this elementary choir rehearses in two sessions on Sunday afternoons due to the size of the group. They always perform together, however. On the first and third Sundays of the month, Grades 4-5 will gather in the choir room to rehearse. On the second and fourth Sundays, Kindergarten-Grade 3 will rehearse in the choir room. The choir room is on the lower level behind the Fellowship Hall.
About our Choir Directors...
Both Bethany and Amanda grew up in church traditions where children started singing at a very early age. They both believe passionately that music is an important part of each child's upbringing in a church family. Bethany sings in the Disciple Choir, is the mother of twin daughters who are Melody Makers and an older son in the ROCK Choir. Amanda is our Director of Choral Ministries. She conducts all adult and youth choirs at MCC, as well as singing in the Praise Team and ringing handbells. Before coming to MCC, Amanda taught music in the public schools. She is the mother of a son and a daughter, both in the ROCK Choir.
