School Partnerships
Believing that education is a key in breaking the cycle of poverty, we are building relationships with local schools and striving to make a difference in the lives of students they teach. Our annual drives for backpacks and Thanksgiving baskets have even expanded into our local school community.
Over the past two years, Middletown Christian Church has helped to establish "Blessings in a Backpack" in some of our local schools. This unique program is designed to feed elementary school children whose families qualify for the federal free and reduced meal program, and may not have any or enough food on the weekends. Better test scores, improved reading skills, positive behavior, improved health and increased attendance have all been attributed to the success of this program. Amazingly, only $80 feeds a child in the program for the entire school year.
In addition, we are working to assess needs and identify opportunities for groups and individuals to serve in schools.
