Who We Are Middletown Christian Church’s vision is to build a community of faith where God transforms people into fully-devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

What does that mean?

Transformation ...

  • begins with a personal relationship with Christ;
  • is a lifelong process;
  • occurs from the inside out;
  • comes through the discovery of God’s will and purpose for our lives;
  • involves surrendering our lives to the will and purpose of God;
  • takes place in community and finds expression in serving others; and
  • is ultimately gauged by the development of Christ-like character and an increased capacity to love God and love people.
Community of Faith -- a group of devoted followers of Jesus Christ, who, as a result of their deep caring and love for one another, create an environment where others can come to know and experience the transforming power of God’s love.

"I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love. I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God."

Ephesians 3:16-19(NRSV)

"Jesus Christ -- the Son of God, our risen Lord and Savior. The name Jesus gives expression to his humanity, whereas the title Christ gives expression to his divinity. We believe that Jesus Christ was both fully human and fully God. Long ago God spoke to our ancestors in many and various ways by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom he also created the worlds. He is the reflection of God’s glory and the exact imprint of God’s very being, and he sustains all things by his powerful word..."

Hebrews 1:1-3(NRSV)

Fully Devoted Follower -- a person who has professed belief in Jesus Christ, has been baptized in his name, is a member of a Christian community, and is committed to growing in faith through the exercise of spiritual disciplines that were characteristic of the believers in the early church:

"They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. Awe came upon everyone, because many wonders and signs were being done by the apostles. All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need. Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved."

Acts 2:42-47(NRSV)
